Serving Businesses and Workplaces in Ontario

A lot of Ontario is commercial and industrial, so business serves come up often. Corporations, LLCs and partnerships are usually served through an officer or a designated agent for service of process. If you know the agent's name, include it with your request. If the person you need works at a warehouse or office, send us the work address and the times they're usually there. We factor whether it's a residence or business into your quote.

How Ordering Works

1. Request a quote through the service request form or by phone. Include the case number, who's being served, the address and your deadline.
2. Get your price. We quote $60–$200 based on the location, residence or business, and road access.
3. Pay on your private customer page. We email you a link to your Current Customer page, where you can check your status and pay with PayPal, Zelle, Cash App or Venmo — a quick, safe and easy way to check out. Our office confirms payment once it lands. We never ask for card or bank numbers.
4. We attempt service at different times and days as needed and log every attempt.
5. You receive your proof: a signed proof of service with photo or video documentation, or a report of attempts if service couldn't be completed. Unless we agree otherwise, you file it with the court.

• Papers may be served by anyone 18 or older who isn't a party to the case (Code Civ. Proc. § 414.10).
• Personal service is complete at the moment the papers are delivered (Code Civ. Proc. § 415.10).
• Substituted service, which means leaving papers with a competent adult at a home or with the person apparently in charge at a business and then mailing a copy, is complete on the 10th day after mailing (Code Civ. Proc. § 415.20).
• A civil summons gives the defendant 30 days after service to file a written response (Code Civ. Proc. § 412.20).

Can you serve someone at their job? Yes, if a work address is where they can be found. Give us the business name, address and the hours they usually work. If you're serving the business itself, include its agent for service of process if you know it.

What happens if the person can't be found? We make reasonable, good-faith attempts at different times and days and keep notes on each one. If service can't be completed, you receive a report of attempts.
